Job Description:

The Assistant Hospitality Sales Manager will be an integral part of our hospitality team at Beringer Vineyards, supporting site operations, staff management, guest experience and sales and budget.

Due to our continued growth, we are currently seeking an experienced hospitality professional to join our dynamic team and assist in the leadership of our committed tasting room staff. This person will serve as the front-line manager for our tasting rooms, and is responsible for all guest interaction and the financial deliverables including fostering a safe environment for guests and employees, key sales metrics, and training/development of the staff.

Sales and Budget


  • Working together with the Hospitality Sales Manager, lead and direct the activities of the Hospitality Associate team to achieve or exceed key DTC objectives and targets, including total revenue and gross profit, Wine Club total enrolments and conversion %, new customer data acquisition and meet and exceed Average Order Value targets.
  • Working together with the Hospitality Sales Manager, ensure good inventory management, managing write-offs and procedures to ensure minimal loss/expense each month.
  • Working with Hospitality Sales Manager, develop monthly innovative sales programs and promotions to drive traffic and sales
  • Provide on-site promotional support. Develop and produce site collateral and signage.
  • Working with marketing and Hospitality Sales Manager, support to update experience programming in Cellarpass and coordinate with POS system, informing the team.
  • Work with sister properties on referral programs and work with sister ambassador program to cascade information to the team.
  • Be active in the local hospitality market to build a strong referral channel for new business
  • Working with Hospitality Sales Manager and DTC Marketing team to support traffic driving programs

    Guest Experience

    • Create a culture of second-to-none excellent and consistent customer service - to every guest every time
    • Monitor tour and tastings to ensure experiences are delivered at the highest guest service standards offerings
    • Shop other winery offerings and provide input to Hospitality Sales Manager on new experiences and programming to ensure Beringer stays relevant and draws new customers
    • Implement Hospitality Academy and Holly Stiel Spirit in Service as the acceptable standards of service
    • Engage with customers and solve service issues

      Staff Management

      • Hire, train, schedule and manage large scale site Hospitality staff to achieve results
      • Inspire staff to increase sales and generate positive experience for all guests
      • Demonstrate strong leadership. Coach team members in all aspects of performance, set a positive example at all times. Work the sales floor, lead VIP tours and interface with top customers to set an example for staff and meet wine sales and club conversion targets
      • Hold the team to the highest level of wine knowledge and sales service standards
      • Ensure team is trained and current on all Beringer DTC priority wines
      • Lead daily pre-shift meetings and participate in monthly staff meeting to ensure focus on sales objectives and growth behaviours
      • Manage performance and behaviours of direct reports, coaching, mentoring, disciplining as appropriate.
      • Write and deliver mid-year and annual performance reviews and execute other TWE HR initiatives as directed
      • Ensure direct reports are trained to adhere to responsible beverage service and responsible food handling standards

        Site Operations

        • Serve as Manager on Duty which entails opening and closing the property, being a key holder, handling daily banking and managing the seamless delivery of the set program of the day (trade, advanced reservations and consumer walk-ins across the complete property).
        • Work with Central Operations team to ensure new product SKUs and monthly programming is set up in eWinery and RMS
        • Confidently respond to and resolve operational challenges - staffing issues, RMS register problems, no credit card service, double bookings, reservation system failing.
        • Manage open and closing of property with other site leads, and ensure accuracy, completion and reconciliation of all daily operations.
        • Working with other site leads, ensure accuracy, completion and reconciliation of all daily sales transactions and operation and cash management of up 9 POS terminals
        • Help insure all SOPs and TWE policies are adhered to
        • Work with the other onsite teams to provide staffing and support for all consumer and Trade events and tours.
        • Ensure team adheres to all TWE Zero Harm and Health & Safety standards, and provide all necessary training
        • Complete projects and other duties as directed by Hospitality Sales Manager.

          Qualifications:

          • Minimum four years direct-to-consumer sales and/or customer service experience, preferred
          • Proven track record of generating direct-to-consumer sales, leading a sales team and delivering results against defined targets.
          • Must be dynamic, innovative, positive and a strong team player.
          • Demonstrated excellence in customer service and sales aptitude.
          • Experience in leading teams, with a proven track record of supervising, leading and coaching sales teams of more than 5 employees.
          • Strong computer skills, notably MSWord, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, RMS (Retail and Wine Club), EWinery and CellarPass, or other equivalent reservations system, Outlook and Calendar.
          • Must be self-motivated, highly organized, and require minimal day-to-day direction
          • Strong written, verbal and organizational skills in English
          • Effective communication with all levels of employees and consumers, written and spoken, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
          • Strong work ethic - must be able to work flexible shifts and must work weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) and holidays.
          • Must have knowledge of Napa Valley area, food and wine market, and understanding/ knowledge of wine and winemaking as well as current trends/events in the wine business.
          • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers about the Winery history and brand strategy, including the differences between product tiers.
          • Appropriate career cycle for position - eager to excel and take on additional responsibilities and grow with the company
          • Must have a clean professional appearance and able to represent TWE internally and externally
          • Must be able to travel on occasion to other Company locations.
          • Must be able to remain calm and focused under pressure
          • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
          • Must be at least 21 years of age
